「古人看此月，今人看此月，如何古人心，難向今人說。古人求道內求心，求得心空道自親，今人求道外求聲，尋聲逐色轉勞神。勞神復勞神，顛倒何紛紛。」擊禪床，下座。

“The ancients looked at this moon; / People today look at this moon. / How is it that the minds of the ancients / Are difficult to explain to people today? / The ancients sought the Way by seeking the mind within; / When the mind was found to be empty, the Way became naturally close. / People today seek the Way by seeking sound without; / Pursuing sound and chasing form, they further exhaust their spirits. / Exhausting the spirit, and again exhausting the spirit— / How tumultuous is their inversion!” Striking the Chan seat, he descended from the seat.
