二人新到，師云：「春雨乍歇，泥水未乾，行脚高人，如何話道？」僧云：「昔時離古寺，今日覩師顏。」師云：「甚處念得者虛頭來？」僧云：「和尚幸是大人。」師云：「脚跟下一句，作麼生道？」僧以坐具摵一摵，師云：「與麼則楊岐燒香供養去也。」僧云：「明眼人難瞞。」師拈起坐具云：「第二行脚僧，喚者箇作什麼？」僧云：「乍入叢林不會。」師云：「實頭人難得，且坐喫茶。」

Two people newly arrived. The Master said: “The spring rain has just ceased, the mud and water are not yet dry. Worthy persons on pilgrimage, how do you speak of the Way?” A monk said: “In former times, I departed from the ancient monastery; today, I behold the Master’s face.” The Master said: “Where did you recite this empty talk from?” The monk said: “Fortunately, the Venerable is a great man.” The Master said: “How do you say the phrase right beneath your heels?” The monk snapped his sitting cloth once. The Master said: “If it is so, then Yangqi will burn incense and make offerings.” The monk said: “It is hard to deceive a person with clear eyes.” The Master held up the sitting cloth and said: “Second pilgrim monk, what do you call this?” The monk said: “Having just entered the monastery, I do not understand.” The Master said: “An honest person is hard to find. Sit for a while and drink tea.”
