歲旦上堂云：「元正啟祚，萬物咸新，揚盡大千沙界，都來只在一塵。」乃展手云：「是新是舊？有人出來道看；若無，四面且世諦流布去也。」遂叉手云：「孟春猶寒，伏惟首座大眾洎諸知事，尊體起居萬福。」

On New Year's Day, ascending the hall, he said: "The prime month begins the blessing; the myriad things are all renewed. Spanning completely the great chiliocosm of dust-realms, it all comes down to being within just a single dust-mote." Then he opened his hands and said: "Is it new, or is it old? Let someone come forward and try to speak. If not, Simian will for now follow conventional truth and circulate it." He then folded his hands and said: "Early spring is still cold; I humbly wish the head monk, the great assembly, and all the administrative monks ten thousand blessings in the care and routine of their honorable bodies."
