1.59

上堂，舉：「教中道：『假使滿世間，皆如舍利弗，盡思共度量，亦復不能知。』尋常衲僧家，高揖釋迦、不拜彌勒，是會佛智？不會佛智？眾中有則有，只是藏牙伏爪。太平有箇見處，不惜眉毛舉向諸人，待有人問，隨口便答。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "The scriptures say: 'Even if the entire world were full of those like Śāriputra, exercising their utmost thought to calculate together, they still could not know it.' Usually patch-robed monks make a high bow to Śākyamuni and do not prostrate to Maitreya—do they understand the Buddha's wisdom, or do they not understand the Buddha's wisdom? Among the assembly there are some who do, but they merely hide their teeth and conceal their claws. Taiping has a insight; not sparing his eyebrows, he presents it to all of you: wait until someone asks, and he will answer as the words come."
