端午上堂，舉：「昔有秀才造《無鬼論》，論就纔放筆，有鬼現身斫手，謂秀才云：『爾爭柰我何。』白雲當時若見，便以手作鶉鳩觜向伊道：谷谷孤。」

Ascending the hall on the Double Fifth, he cited: "Formerly, a scholar composed the *Treatise on the Non-Existence of Ghosts*. Just as the treatise was finished and he set down his brush, a ghost appeared, chopped its hand, and said to the scholar, 'What can you do to me?' If Baiyun had seen this at that time, I would have shaped my hand like a quail's beak, faced him, and said: 'Gugu-gu.'"
