上堂云：「去聖時遙人多懈怠，逆則生嗔順則生愛，且道作麼生是不嗔不愛？東海剪刀，西番皮袋。」

Ascending the hall, he said, "The departure of the sages is far off, and people are mostly indolent. In adversity they give rise to anger; in prosperity they give rise to affection. Tell me, what is neither anger nor affection? Scissors of the Eastern Sea; a leather bag of the Western Barbarians."
