Ascending the hall, he said: "The Buddhas of the ten directions, the patriarchs of the six generations, and the kalyāṇamitras under heaven all share this very tongue. If you recognize this tongue, only then will you understand great deceit, and straightaway say that mountains, rivers, and the great earth are Buddha, that grasses, trees, and forests are Buddha. If you have not yet recognized this tongue, you will only bring about small deceit, fooling yourself; tomorrow and the day after, there will be serious matters ahead. In Taiping talking like this, is there any genuine place or not?" He said himself: "There is. What is the genuine place? Return to the hall and drink tea."
