上堂，問答罷，師乃云：「釋迦已滅，彌勒未生，正當今日，佛法委在翠峯，放開揑聚總由者裏。放開也，七縱八橫，是處填溝塞壑；揑聚也天下老和尚盡在拄杖頭，不消一劄。」

Ascending the hall, after the questions and answers were finished, the master then said: "Śākyamuni has already passed into extinction, and Maitreya is not yet born. Exactly today, the Buddhadharma is entrusted to Cuifeng; releasing and gathering are entirely up to this place. When released, leaping freely in seven ways and eight directions, everywhere filling ditches and blocking valleys; when gathered, the old upādhyāyas under heaven are all on the tip of my staff, not requiring a single prick."
