2.49

新州出箇賣樵者，龍朔年中藏晝夜，黃梅舂得古菱華，不倚物兮便高拄。秀禪拂拭無塵埃，歷盡諸難眼未開，交馳石上求文字，爭得孤峯却載來。近還有箇尋吾祖，云在廬村深處住，偷得隣家些子光，用作千燈擬流布。呵呵呵，地久天長爭奈何。

Xinzhou produced a firewood seller; / During the Longshuo years, he concealed day and night. / At Huangmei he pounded the ancient water caltrop blossom; / Relying on no thing, he stood tall and aloft. / Xiu the Chan practitioner wiped away all dust and dirt, / Yet though he endured every hardship, his eyes were not opened. / Running back and forth upon the stones seeking written words, / How could the solitary peak be carried back? / Recently there was another who sought our patriarch, / Saying he lived deep within the Lu village; / Stealing a bit of light from the neighboring house, / He intended to use it as a thousand lamps to spread abroad. / Haha! Enduring as long as heaven and earth, what can be done about it?
