3.17

舉：「趙州問婆子：『什麼處去？』云：『偷趙州笋去。』州云：『忽遇趙州又作麼生？』婆子便掌，州便休去。」師云：「好掌，更下兩掌，也無勘處。」

He brought up: "Zhaozhou asked an old woman, 'Where are you going?' She said, 'Going to steal Zhaozhou's bamboo shoots.' Zhou said, 'What if you suddenly run into Zhaozhou?' The old woman slapped him; Zhou then ceased." The Master said, "A good slap! Even if she had struck him with two more slaps, he would have had nowhere to interrogate her."
