3.28

舉：「趙州到黃檗，檗見來便關却方丈，州云：『救火救火。』黃檗便出擒住云：『道道。』州云：『賊過後張弓。』」師云：「直是好笑，笑須三十年，忽有箇衲僧問：『雪竇笑箇什麼？』笑賊過後張弓。」

He brought up: "Zhaozhou arrived at Huangbo's. Huangbo saw him coming and closed the abbot's quarters. Zhou said, 'Fire! Fire!' Huangbo came out, seized him, and said, 'Speak! Speak!' Zhou said, 'Drawing the bow after the thief has passed.'" The Master said, "Truly laughable! A laugh must last thirty years. If a patch-robed monk suddenly asks, 'What is Xuedou laughing at?'—laughing at drawing the bow after the thief has passed."
