3.79

舉：「耽源辭國師，歸省覲馬祖，於地上作一圓相，展坐具禮拜，祖云：『子欲作佛去。』源云：『某甲不解揑目。』祖云：『吾不如汝。』」師云：「然猛虎不食其子，爭奈來言不豐。諸人要識耽源麼？只是箇藏身露影漢。」

[The Master] cited: "Danyuan took leave of the National Teacher and returned to pay respects to Mazu. He drew a circle on the ground, spread his sitting cloth, and made prostrations. Mazu said, 'You intend to become a Buddha.' Danyuan said, 'I do not know how to squeeze my eyes.' Mazu said, 'I am not as good as you.'" The Master said, "Though a fierce tiger does not eat its cubs, how can one help that the incoming words were not ample? Do you people wish to know Danyuan? He is merely a fellow who conceals his body while revealing his shadow."
