3.95

舉：「三聖問雪峯：『透網金鱗以何為食？』峯云：『待汝出網來，向汝道。』聖云：『一千五百人善知識，話頭也不識。』峯云：『老僧住持事煩。』」師云：「可惜放過。好與二十棒，者棒一棒也饒不得，直是罕遇作家。」

He cited: "Sansheng asked Xuefeng, 'What does the golden fish that has passed through the net feed on?' Feng said, 'Wait until you have come out of the net, then I will tell you.' Sheng said, 'A good friend to fifteen hundred people, yet you do not even recognize the turning-phrase.' Feng said, 'This old monk's administrative duties as abbot are vexing.'" The Master said, "A pity to let him off! He deserved twenty blows of the stick; not even a single one of these blows could be spared. Truly, great adepts are rarely met."
