南泉遷化，陸亘大夫到，院主云：「大夫何不哭？」大夫云：「道得即哭。」長慶代云：「合笑不合哭。」別云：「蒼天蒼天。」

When Nanquan passed away, Grand Master Lu Gen arrived; the director of duties said, "Why do you not weep, Grand Master?" The Grand Master said, "If you can say a word, I will weep." Changqing said on his behalf, "It is fitting to laugh, not fitting to weep." In an alternative [the Master] said, "Blue heavens! Blue heavens!"
