One day he said, "An ancient said, 'When in action, it takes form; when quiescent, it is obscure.' Transforming heaven and earth, unrestrained, horizontal and vertical; functioning like the sands of the river, flourishing in primordial chaos. Who hears this and does not rejoice? Who hears this and is not startled? Why is the priceless jewel hidden away in the pit of the aggregates and sense-bases?" The Master struck once with his staff and said, "Smashed to pieces! Where is the jewel?"
