He brought up: "Daci instructed the assembly, saying: 'This mountain monk does not know how to answer questions; he only diagnoses sickness.' At that time a monk came forward, and Daci returned to the abbot's quarters." The Master said, "Generally, upholding the ancestral vehicle requires discerning gain and loss. Now, Daci diagnosed sickness and did not answer questions; when a monk came forward, he returned to the abbot's quarters. Xuedou diagnoses sickness and does not answer questions; if a monk comes forward, [I] strike him across the back! Everywhere they diagnose sickness and do not answer questions; if a monk comes forward, they must surely have some other merit. If anyone dares make a move: the Son of Heaven of the Great Tang is only three people."
