[The Master] cited: "Nanquan instructed the assembly, saying, 'Old Teacher Wang is going to sell his body; is there anyone who will buy it?' A monk came forward from the assembly and said, 'I will buy it.' Nanquan said, 'Neither setting a high price nor setting a low price, how will you buy it?' The monk had no words. Wolong spoke in his place: 'The Upādhyāya belongs to me.' Heshan said, 'What principle is this?' Zhaozhou said, 'Next year I will make a cloth shirt for the Upādhyāya.'" The Master said, "Though adepts vied to buy it, they still did not understand how to lose the advantage. Tell me, did Nanquan approve or not? Xuedou also intended to offer a price, leaving Nanquan nowhere to advance and no ground to retreat: neither setting a high price nor setting a low price, how will you buy it? No other place can accommodate the Upādhyāya."
