There was a Tripiṭaka Master Shengming from India who arrived at the place of the Great King Wang. The king ordered Xuansha to test him. Xuansha struck an iron brazier with copper fire-tongs and asked the Tripiṭaka master, "What sound is this?" He said, "The sound of copper and iron." Xuansha said, "Great King, do not be deceived by a foreigner." The Master in an alternative said, "The Great King should increase his faith and respect." He also said as an alternative for the Tripiṭaka master, "Do not deceive a foreigner."
