Do you not see:
Travel on the road is difficult, yet also easy;
Grasping grass to make gold is not what is precious.
When difficult, waves surge on level ground;
When easy, auspicious omens appear everywhere.
How much to laugh at, how much to grieve!
Establishing the lofty standard in the heavens and among humans,
Brothers cross paths in all directions like the stars Shen and Chen,
With one principle and identical hearts, tranquil as autumn waters.
I recall the ancient spirit of Shaoyang:
Sparks of flint and flashes of lightning are slow to appear and disappear;
Phrases that leave behind the body mark the wayfarer's road,
Inquiries knocking at the gate are not nesting burrows.
Earnestly I tell you, and you must remember:
Wander beyond boundaries and inspect the claws and spurs;
If you do not meet one who knows the tone in the thickets of tigers and wolves,
Twitch your eyebrows and straightway return.
