One who has attained it has completely eradicated mental contrivances; illumination and function are forgotten, and there is no grasp or apprehension at all. He simply keeps to leisurely ease; yet the devas have no way to scatter flowers [before him], and māras and outsiders peek in vain without seeing him. Walking on the deep ocean floor, his outflows exhausted and conceptual thoughts dissolved, whatever he does is ordinary, no different from [someone in] a village of three families. Directly opening his heart, even when cultivated to such a place, he is still unwilling to abide there. The moment there is the slightest trace, he feels it like Mount Tai; if it obstructs anyone, he casts it off immediately. Although it is purely the ground of principle, there is also nothing to grasp; if one grasps it, it is a thorn of views. Therefore it is said, "The Way has no mind to unite with people; people have no mind to unite with the Way." How could he boast of himself, saying, "I am one who has attained"? Naturally, he deeply desires that people not know him; he is called one of no study and non-action, a peer of the ancients, a true person of the Way.
