16.30

舉：「翠巖示眾云：『一夏與兄弟東語西語，看翠巖眉毛在麼？』」師云：「輸機是算人之本，翠巖坐却人舌頭，無鵮啄處。長慶云：『生也，因事長智。』保福云：『作賊人心虛，是精識精。』門云：『關。』據欵結案，雖宗師競酬，還截得翠巖脚跟麼？不躡前蹤，試請道看。」

[The Master] cited: "Ciyan addressed the assembly, saying: 'All summer I have talked this way and that with you brethren. Look and see: are Cuiyan's eyebrows still there?'" The Master said: "Losing one's opportunity is the basis for reckoning others. Cuiyan sat upon everyone's tongues so that there was nowhere to peck. Changqing said: 'They have grown! Through affairs one grows in wisdom.' Baofu said: 'A thief at heart feels anxious—one expert recognizes another.' Yunmen said: 'Barrier!' According to the confession, the case is closed; though the lineage masters vied in responding, did they yet sever Cuiyan's heels? Without treading in their previous tracks, try to say something and let us see."
