17.10

舉：「遵布衲在藥山浴佛次，山云：『爾浴得這箇，還浴得那箇麼？』遵云：『把將那箇來。』」師云：「藥山問處闇隔重關，遵老答來一槌兩當，不可只守這一路也。或有問崇寧：『只浴得這箇，還浴得那箇麼？』提起杓子向伊道：『何似生。』」

[The Master] cited: "When Zun Buna was bathing the Buddha at Yaoshan, Yaoshan said, 'You can bathe this one; can you also bathe that one?' Zun said, 'Bring that one here.'"
The Master said, "Where Yaoshan questioned, he secretly blocked multiple barriers; when Elder Zun replied, a single stroke hit both marks. One must not keep only to this single road. Were someone to ask Chongning, 'You only bathe this one; can you also bathe that one?' I would raise the ladle, face him, and say: 'What is it like?'"
