19.17

舉：「馬祖與百丈同遊山，見野鴨子飛過，祖云：『是什麼？』丈云：『野鴨子。』祖云：『向什麼處去也？』丈云：『飛過了也。』祖將百丈鼻孔扭，丈作忍痛聲，祖云：『何曾飛去？』丈於此有省。」

[Yuanwu] brought up: "Mazu was walking in the mountains with Baizhang and saw wild ducks fly past. Mazu said, 'What is that?' Baizhang said, 'Wild ducks.' Mazu said, 'Where did they go?' Baizhang said, 'They flew past.' Mazu twisted Baizhang's nose; Baizhang cried out in pain. Mazu said, 'When did they ever fly away?' Baizhang had an awakening at this."
