3.31

上堂云：「葉落知秋，動絃別曲，定光招手，智者點頭，承當於文彩未生前，相照向是非得失外，不涉廉纖如何通信？萬景徒有象，孤雲本無心。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "When a leaf falls, one knows autumn has arrived; pluck the string and the tune is recognized. Dīpaṃkara beckons with his hand; the wise one nods his head. Undertaking it before the written patterns arise, mutually illumining beyond right and wrong, gain and loss. Without getting involved in fine details, how can you communicate the message? Ten thousand scenes merely have forms; a lone cloud originally has no mind."
