7.22

上堂，舉：「古者道：『動是誑，寂是謗，動寂向上有事在，老僧口門窄，不能與汝說。』」師云：「是則是，只道得一橛。若是山僧則不然，語是誑，默是謗，語默向上有事在，老僧舌頭短，不能與爾說。還委悉麼？兩仞金剛寶劍，一對無孔鐵槌。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "An ancient said, 'Movement is deception; stillness is slander. Above movement and stillness there is the matter; this old monk's mouth is narrow and cannot speak of it for you.'" The Master said, "It may be so, but he only spoke one half. As for this mountain monk, it is not so: speech is deception; silence is slander. Above speech and silence there is the matter; this old monk's tongue is short and cannot speak of it for you. Do you fully understand? A double-edged diamond jewel sword, a pair of holeless iron hammers."
