入院，至方丈云：「箇是天下叢林鍛佛祖不洪爐，奕世宗師烹衲子鉗鎚底處，所以山僧到此，老老倒倒，跛跛挈挈，百事無能，向箇裏如何施設？然雖如是，當爐不避火。還委悉麼？銅頭鐵額如龍虎，看取金圈栗棘蓬。」

Entering the monastery, arriving at the Abbot's quarters, he said, "This is where the monastic groves of the world forge Buddhas and Patriarchs in the great furnace, and where generations of lineage masters refine patch-robed monks with tongs and hammer. Thus when this mountain monk arrived here, old and decrepit, hobbling and limping, incompetent in everything, how can he set up anything in this place? Although this is so, facing the furnace one does not flee the fire. Do you fully understand? Copper heads and iron foreheads like dragons and tigers; look closely at the diamond cage and the chestnut burr!"
