Ascending the hall, he said: "Clear autumn and sunny skies, crops are rich and abundant; the four seas are peaceful and quiet, the myriad people delight in their occupations. People of the groves rest their thoughts and cease their minds; directly facing the sun, they cut off reward and transformation [bodies], eating when hungry, drinking when thirsty, lying down when tired, walking when at leisure; without affairs and without contrivance, they attain great freedom. The one phrase facing the sun cannot be proclaimed again; avoiding it is impossible, it must directly leak out. Do you fully understand? The eighth month of autumn—where is it hot?"
He added: "Last night I dreamed of ascending a tower, and suddenly obtained a seasonal cause and condition. This morning I bring it up to show the assembly:
The four quarters of the wilderness are distantly clear and still,
Directly like sitting in Shaolin;
Clouds cloak the peak of the high mountain,
The moon is in the heart of the blue waves."
