Ascending the hall, the Master said: "The root of transformation and nurture shares a single path with self and other; the source of patriarchs and Buddhas is unchanging throughout past and present. Brilliantly and solitary, it is revealed, thoroughly penetrating sounds and forms without remainder. Openly it appears before you; neither movement nor stillness can constrain it. Cut off opinions, sever speech; within sense faculties and dusts there is not a hair's gap; beyond sounds and forms, coming and going are boundless. Penetrating past and present, birth and death in such a way, sticking the head out and submerging the head are all completely cut off. If you are not yet thus, there are cold and heat to cut short your lifespan, and ghosts and spirits to envy your blessings." He stepped down from the seat.
