If you wish to obtain intimacy, first of all, do not seek. If you seek and find it, you have already fallen into intellectual understanding. How much more so with this great jewel storehouse: spanning antiquity and the present, it is clearly and lucidly empty and bright, serving as one's own root from beginningless kalpas. All actions and movements entirely rely on its power. Simply rest until you reach the place where not a single thought arises; that is breaking through and shedding off. Not falling into emotional dust, not dwelling in intentional thoughts, far transcending and completely detached, then it is unhidden throughout the entire realm; each and every phenomenon becomes the great function, every single one flowing forth from one's own chest. The ancients called this "bringing out the family treasure"; once attained, it is eternally attained and enjoyed—how could there be any end? The only worry is that in the place of investigation, one's footing is not firm and one cannot thoroughly realize it. You must vigorously sever all conditions so that not a hair's breadth remains; rely on abandoning body and relinquishing life, directly undertaking it without a second. Even if a thousand sages were to appear, it would not change. Accord with circumstances at all times, eating food and wearing clothes, nourishing the sage's fetus without harboring intellectual understanding—is this not an economical, direct, and extraordinary Dharma gate?
