The buddhas and patriarchs established their teachings through the spiritual path, solely aiming to clarify the mind and penetrate the source. Moreover, everyone is fully endowed with it and each is completely perfected; it is only because of delusions and false notions that they turn their backs on this original mind, drifting through the various destinies and vainly undergoing transmigration, while its fundamental root has never increased or decreased. That the buddhas appeared in the world on account of the one great cause was entirely for this; that the ancestral masters came with the single transmission of the esoteric seal was likewise for this. If someone has harbored great capacity and sharp wisdom from former lives, they can immediately accept and shoulder it right under their own feet, not obtaining it from another. Clearly awakening on their own, wide open and spiritually luminous, vast, empty and tranquil, never interrupted from beginningless time, the pure, unconditioned, wonderfully complete true mind does not stand in opposition to the various dusts, nor does it keep company with the myriad dharmas. Constantly like ten suns shining together, leaving behind views and transcending emotional attachment, it cuts off the floating illusions of birth and death, firm and immovable like the Diamond King. This is what is called 'mind itself is buddha'; seeking nothing outside, one merely comprehends one's self-nature. Instantly according with the buddhas and patriarchs, arriving at the ground of no doubt, holding fast and taking charge—is this not the direct and rapid great liberation?
