Ascending the hall, he said, "The great void is vast and expansive, the myriad phenomena are dense and luxuriant; the upright eye is thoroughly clear, not establishing a single speck of dust. In the solitary and precipitous place, Patriarchs cannot approach; in the level and even place, humans and devas all know. Strike open the great liberation gate and recognize the one without features! And what is the one without features? Peony blossoms bloom as a bodhisattva's face; / Palm leaves reveal a yakṣa's head."
