Bodhi directly before the eyes is true liberation; / the true eye on the crown of the head illuminates heaven and earth. / Penetrating through the barrier of birth and death, / vast and clear, without arising or extinction. / Great Master Fozhen: throughout his life, every drop of water was a drop of ice; valiant, cutting through nails and severing iron. The entire world respected his character; all who heard or saw him admired and sighed in praise. Leaping out from among the palace attendants, he cultivated practice in the ranks of patch-robed monks. Emperor Yuansheng conferred an honorary name; the Empress bestowed the ordination certificate. He astounded the crowd and subdued the assembly, standing beyond peers and leaving ordinary ranks behind. We thought there lay ahead a journey of ten thousand miles; who could have expected that a hundred years would be like an instant? Now, turning his body and departing for long, he has broken through the diamond cage and chestnut burr; the halo behind the crown of his head manifests the great fire-heap of the unproduced. Fozhen, Fozhen! Swiftly fix your eyes, safeguard your cloud journey! Just as the single torch of red light is raised, roam freely atop the crown of Vairocana!
