At the invitation of Academician Zheng of the Longtu Hall, [the Master] ascended the hall and said: "Meeting each other without bringing it forth, as soon as an intention arises, you know it is there. Tell me: how is this intention raised? What is it that you know is there? If one discusses Buddhas, discusses ancestors, discusses the mysterious, discusses the wondrous, discusses the dynamic, discusses states, discusses the staff, or discusses the shout, these are all peripheral matters; can it be placed on top of them? If you can place it there, the fragrant water oceans of the worlds of the ten directions are seen on the tip of a single hair, with each and every thing originally free from alteration. If you miss it at the tip of a single hair, even if you employ seven perforations and eight apertures, it will still have no connection. As for the single phrase that has a connection, how do you express it? Having bitten off the tongue three thousand miles away, the sun and moon within the flask are naturally distinct and clear."
