Ascending the hall, he said: "Before the fifteenth day, a thousand oxen cannot drag it back; after the fifteenth day, a swift falcon cannot catch up with it; right on the fifteenth day, heaven is level and earth is level, equally bright and equally dark, the great-thousand sand-worlds do not go beyond this very place, able to swallow and spit out the ten directions of empty space. Taking a step forward, one transcends inexpressible and inexpressible seas of fragrant water; taking a step backward, one cuts off white clouds for a thousand leagues and ten thousand leagues. Neither advancing nor retreating—not to mention you, Ācārya—even this old monk has no place to open his mouth." Thereupon he raised his whisk and said: "Right at such a time, how is it? At times held up atop a thousand peaks, cutting through the clouds in the sky, not letting them rise high."
