Ascending the hall at Mid-Autumn, a monk asked: "Leaving aside the three barriers of Huanglong, what is Yangqi's chestnut burr?" The Master said: "No one in the world can swallow it." The monk continued: "Can the Venerable Monk swallow it or not?" The Master said: "This old monk is the foremost among those who cannot swallow it." The monk asked: "Since you cannot swallow it, how do you help others?" The Master said: "In the end I would never dare betray Yangqi." The monk asked: "What is the diamond cage?" The Master said: "Though you exhaust your tricks, Ācārya, in a hundred years you will not break through." The monk asked: "If suddenly someone comes forward and says, 'This is all idle talk,' what then?" The Master said: "Let him leap about as he pleases." The monk said: "Today this old Venerable is showing a bit of accommodating goodwill." The Master said: "Don't go stamping winter melons!" The Master then said: "Midway through autumn, the west wind blows sharp; / high in the sky, the moon is round. / Rustling, the leaves fall from the trees; / glistening, drops of dew hang clear. / Resounding shrill, wild geese pierce the clouds; / sorrowful and clear, cicadas cling to the trees. / Every single thing completely leaks it out; / by all means avoid searching for the obscure and mysterious!"
