Ascending the hall, [the master] said, "Great assembly! Mahāsattva Fu said, 'Sumeru is the father of the mustard seed; the mustard seed is the grandfather of Sumeru. The mountains and rivers are tranquil and level; chop the ice to boil tea.' I have heard that Mahāsattva Fu was an incarnation of Mahāsattva Maitreya; see how he communicates this news—it certainly hits the mark! Today this mountain monk will add mud to earth, and also has a verse:
Mount Sumeru taking in a mustard seed is not easy; / A mustard seed taking in Sumeru seems quite effortless. / Stirring the long river turns it into ghee; / Lightly strike right through the patriarchal barrier."
