僧問興化：「四方八面來時如何？」化云：「打中間底。」僧便禮拜，化云：「興化今日赴箇村齋，向來中路撞著一陣卒風暴雨，却向古廟裏閃避得過。」頌云：

A monk asked Xinghua, "What happens when [they] come from all four directions and eight quarters?" Xinghua said, "Strike the center." The monk then bowed. Xinghua said, "Today Xinghua went to attend a village feast; on the road earlier, he ran into a sudden gale and torrential rain, but managed to duck into an old temple to dodge it." The verse says:
