趙州訪道吾，吾見來，著豹皮裩，把吉撩棒，在三門前等候，纔見州來，便高聲唱喏而立，州云：「小心祇候著。」吾又唱喏一聲而去。頌云：

Zhaozhou visited Daowu. Seeing him coming, Daowu put on leopard-skin breeches, held a crooked cudgel, and waited in front of the triple gate. As soon as he saw Zhaozhou arrive, he called out a loud greeting and stood. Zhaozhou said, "Be careful while on attendant duty!" Daowu called out another greeting and departed. The verse says:
