後有僧舉似南泉，泉云：「苦哉浮盃，被這老婆摧折一上。」婆聞笑云：「王老師猶少機關在。」時有幽州澄一禪客，乃問婆：「南泉為甚少機關？」婆哭云：「可悲可痛。」澄一罔措，婆乃問：「會麼？」澄一合掌而立，婆云：「猗死禪和，如麻似粟。」後澄一舉似趙州，州云：「我若見這臭婆，問教口啞。」澄一云：「未審和尚怎生問他？」州便打，澄一云：「為甚却打某甲？」州云：「似這猗死禪和，不打更待何時？」頌云：

Later a monk cited this to Nanquan. Nanquan said, 'How miserable, Fubei! Brought down and broken once by this old woman.' Hearing of this, the old woman laughed and said, 'Teacher Wang is still lacking in turning points.' At the time, Chan traveler Chengyi of Youzhou asked the old woman, 'Why is Nanquan lacking in turning points?' The old woman wept, saying, 'Pitiable! Lamentable!' Chengyi was at a loss. The old woman asked, 'Do you understand?' Chengyi stood with palms joined. The old woman said, 'Dead Chan monks like this are as common as hemp and millet.' Later Chengyi cited this to Zhaozhou. Zhaozhou said, 'If I were to see this foul old woman, I would question her into silence.' Chengyi said, 'I wonder how the Venerable would question her?' Zhaozhou struck him. Chengyi said, 'Why did you hit me?' Zhaozhou said, 'For dead Chan monks like this, if not struck now, what are you waiting for?' A verse says:
