羅山在禾山，送同行矩長老出門次，山把拄杖面前一攛，矩無對，山云：「石牛攔古路，一馬勿雙駒。」後有僧舉似疎山，山云：「石牛攔古路，一馬生三寅。」頌云：

While Luoshan was at Heshan, he was seeing off his fellow practitioner, Senior Monk Ju, at the gate. Luoshan tossed his staff down in front of him. Ju had no reply. Luoshan said, "A stone ox blocks the ancient road; a single horse does not bear twin colts." Later a monk cited this to Shushan. Shushan said, "A stone ox blocks the ancient road; a single horse gives birth to three colts." His verse says:
