江月老人，牓所居之室曰轉物，蓋取《首楞嚴》「若能轉物，即同如來」之義，書來索銘，妙喜宗杲為之銘曰：
The Old Man of the River Moon inscribed the room where he lived as 'Transforming Things', taking the meaning from the Śūraṅgama Sūtra: 'If one can transform things, one is identical with the Tathāgata.' He sent a letter requesting an inscription. Miaoxi Zonggao made an inscription for him, saying:
