渠本宣州人，生緣在寧國，前不尊釋迦，後不敬彌勒，家貧無飯噇，出家去投佛。行脚走諸方，江南遍江北，纔參臨濟禪，便作白拈賊。眼裏有瞳人，肚中無點墨，還如跛阿師，說得行不得。

He is originally a man of Xuanzhou, / Born and raised in Ningguo. / In front, he does not revere Śākyamuni; / Behind, he does not respect Maitreya. / His family was poor and had no food to gobble, / So he left home and went to take refuge with the Buddha. / Traveling on foot through various regions, / South of the River and across the North; / No sooner had he investigated Linji's Chan / Than he became a broad-daylight thief. / In his eyes there are pupils, / But in his belly not a dot of ink; / Just like a lame ācārya, / He can talk the talk, but cannot walk the walk.
