Everyone has the four great elements; Zen Practitioner Chong alone possessed the five great elements: besides earth, water, fire, and wind, there was also the greatness of a single bamboo hat. This hat is internally empty, externally empty, and internally-and-externally empty; it encompasses the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. What need to mention Mount Sumeru, the Iron Encircling Mountains, rivers, and great seas? The myriad forms and dense phenomena are all inside it, without constriction and without narrowness. And now the four great elements have already fallen into discord; only the great hat endures forever. This great hat is exceedingly marvelous: chanted once, chanted twice, chanted three times—it is not sold when expensive, nor sold when cheap. Ultimately, how is it? Let it be cast together with Zen Practitioner Chong into the samādhi of firelight!
