上堂，拈拄杖卓一下喝一喝云：「德山棒，臨濟喝，今日為君重拈掇。天何高，地何闊，休向糞掃堆上更添搕𢶍。換却骨，洗却腸，徑山退身三步，許爾諸人商量。且作麼生商量？」擲下拄杖喝一喝云：「紅粉易成端正女，無錢難作好兒郎。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] took up his staff, struck once, gave a shout, and said, "Deshan's blow, Linji's shout—today I bring them up again for you. How high the heavens, how wide the earth! Stop adding trash on top of a heap of sweepings. Change your bones, wash out your guts; Jingshan takes three steps back and permits you all to deliberate. But how will you deliberate?" Throwing down the staff, he gave a shout and said, "With rouge and powder, it is easy to become an upright lady; without money, it is hard to be a fine fellow."
