24.23

古聖云：「道不假修，但莫污染。」山僧道：「說心說性是污染，說玄說妙是污染，坐禪習定是污染，著意思惟是污染。」只今恁麼形紙筆，是特地污染。降此之外，畢竟如何是著實得力處？金剛寶劍當頭截，莫管人間是與非。總禪但恁麼參。

An ancient sage said: "The Way does not rely on cultivation; just do not defile it." This mountain monk says: "Speaking of mind and speaking of nature is defilement; speaking of the profound and speaking of the wondrous is defilement; sitting in meditation and practicing absorption is defilement; applying thought and deliberating is defilement." Just now, expressing it on paper and brush like this is deliberately defiling it. Aside from this, what is ultimately the place where you truly gain strength? Let the vajra precious sword sever it directly; pay no heed to the rights and wrongs of the human world. Practitioner Zong, just investigate in this way.
