4.26

上堂，舉：「僧問六祖：『黃梅意旨甚麼人得？』祖云：『會佛法人得。』僧云：『和尚還得否？』祖云：『我不得。』僧云：『和尚為甚麼不得？』祖云：『我不會佛法。』」師召大眾云：「還見祖師麼？若也不見，徑山為爾指出。蕉芭蕉芭，有葉無了。忽然一陣狂風起，恰似東京大相國寺裏三十六院東廊下北角頭王和尚破袈裟。畢竟如何？歸堂喫茶。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "A monk asked the Sixth Patriarch: 'Who attained the purport of Huangmei?' The Patriarch said: 'One who understands the Buddha Dharma attained it.' The monk said: 'Did the Venerable attain it or not?' The Patriarch said: 'I did not attain it.' The monk said: 'Why did the Venerable not attain it?' The Patriarch said: 'I do not understand the Buddha Dharma.'" The Master called to the assembly: "Do you still see the Patriarch? If you do not see him, Jingshan will point him out for you. Plantain, oh plantain! Having leaves without an end. Suddenly a gust of wild wind arises, just like the torn kāṣāya of Venerable Wang at the north corner beneath the eastern corridor among the thirty-six cloisters in the Great Xiangguo Monastery of the Eastern Capital. Ultimately, how is it? Return to the hall and drink tea."
