6.30

上堂，舉：「圓通秀和尚示眾云：『少林九年冷坐，剛被神光覷破，如今玉石難分，只得麻纏紙裹。這一箇，那一箇，更一箇，若是明眼人，何須重說破。』」師云：「徑山今日不免狗尾續貂，也有些子。老胡九年話墮，可惜當時放過，致令默照之徒，鬼窟長年打坐。這一箇，那一箇，更一箇，雖然苦口叮嚀，却似樹頭風過。」

Ascending the high seat, the Master brought up: "Venerable Yuantong Xiu instructed the assembly, saying: 'Sitting coldly at Shaolin for nine years, he was stubbornly seen through by Shenguang. Nowadays jade and stone are hard to distinguish; one can only wrap it in hemp and paper. This one, that one, yet another one—if one is a clear-eyed person, what need to explain it through again?'" The Master said: "Today Jingshan cannot avoid tacking a dog's tail onto sable, but there is still a little something. The old barbarian blundered into speech for nine years; what a pity he let him off at that time, causing the silent illumination gang to sit long years in a ghost cave. This one, that one, yet another one—though I instruct with earnest words, it is still like the wind passing through the tree tops."
