7.21

示眾：「多時不說禪，口邊生白醭，大眾苦相煎，便登曲彔木。匪論五家宗，不引傳燈錄，纔開兩片皮，業因招薄福。釋迦乾屎橛，達磨老臭禿，一人曲說直，一人直說曲，彼此大丈夫，肯受爾沸𡱰？罵佛謗祖師，定入拔舌獄，佛祖生冤家，魔王真眷屬。心地黑漫漫，口裏水漉漉，似恁出家兒，定滅瞿曇族。臘月三十朝，大笑却成哭。」召大眾云：「還識雲門村叟麼？曾聞一飽忘百饑，今日山僧身便是。」喝一喝。

Instructing the assembly, [the Master said]:
"Not speaking of Chan for a long time, white mold grew around my mouth.
The assembly pressed me hard, so I climbed onto the curved-wood chair.
Without discussing the Five Houses of our lineage, without citing the Records of the Transmission of the Lamp,
Barely opening these two flaps of skin, karmic causes invite meager blessings.
Śākyamuni is a dry piece of shit; Bodhidharma is an old stinking bald-head.
One crookedly speaks the straight, one straightly speaks the crooked.
Both being great heroes, would they willingly accept your idle chatter?
Cursing buddhas and slandering patriarchs, one is bound to enter the tongue-pulling hell;
To buddhas and patriarchs, a born adversary; to Māra the evil king, a true kin.
The mind-ground pitch-black, the mouth dripping with saliva—
Renunciants like this are certain to extinguish Gautama's clan.
On the morning of the thirtieth day of the twelfth month, great laughter instead becomes weeping."
He called to the great assembly and said, "Do you still recognize the old village rustic of Yunmen? I once heard that a single full meal makes one forget a hundred hungers; today this mountain monk in person is that very one." He gave a shout.
