示眾：「恁麼恁麼，針劄不入；不恁麼不恁麼，匙挑不上；恁麼中不恁麼，鬼面神頭；不恁麼中却恁麼，披毛戴角。阿呵呵！且道笑箇甚麼？我笑昔日雲門大師有時云：『聞聲悟道，見色明心，觀世音菩薩將錢買餬餅，放下手云：「元來只是饅頭。」』」乃喝一喝云：「人無遠慮，必有近憂。」

Addressing the assembly: "Thus, thus—a needle cannot penetrate; not thus, not thus—a spoon cannot lift it out. Within 'thus,' 'not thus'—a demon's face and a spirit's head; within 'not thus,' 'thus'—wearing fur and bearing horns. Ah, ha, ha! Tell me, what am I laughing at? I laugh at Great Master Yunmen of old who at times said: 'Hearing sounds, one awakens to the Way; seeing forms, one clarifies the mind. Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva buys a fried sesame cake with money, lowers his hand, and says: "Originally it was just a steamed bun."'" Then giving a shout, he said: "If a person has no distant worries, he will surely have immediate troubles."
