Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "Linji said, 'After my passing, you must not destroy my treasury of the true Dharma eye.' Sansheng came forward and said, 'Who would dare destroy the Venerable's treasury of the true Dharma eye?' What is the treasury of the true Dharma eye?" The Master said, "Yanxian, that thief—how could he understand the treasury of the true Dharma eye?" The monk advanced and said, "Linji said, 'If someone asks you, what then?' Sansheng then gave a shout. Linji said, 'Who knew that my treasury of the true Dharma eye would be extinguished beside this blind donkey!' What does this mean?" The Master said, "Profit stirs even a gentleman." He then brought up: "The king of Kashmir, holding a sword, asked Venerable Āryasiṃha, 'Have you attained the emptiness of the aggregates?' The Venerable said, 'I have already attained the emptiness of the aggregates.' The king said, 'Have you escaped birth and death?' The Venerable said, 'I have already escaped birth and death.' The king said, 'Can you give me your head?' The Venerable said, 'My body is not mine; how much less the head.' The king then cut it off: white milk [spurted] over ten feet high, and the king's arm fell off of itself. Xuedou said, 'An adept monarch! The natural [sovereignty] is still present.' Master Huanglong Xin said, 'Huanglong wishes to ask Xuedou: Since he was an adept monarch, why did his arm fall off?'" The Master said, "That fellow Meng Balang has gone off like that again!"
